Journey with Dreams

The first thing extra that I did when I moved to this Valley, outside of the everydayness of life, was inquire from my new neighbors if there was a dream group going on. This led me to the Stone Mountain Farm, to the Center for Symbolic Studies and to the Larsens. That was Autumn of 1998. I have been meeting with a steady flow of characters to do dream work, twice-monthly for these past years.

At CSS dream group, we delve into the art of dream work and power of dreaming- sharing dream themes as brush fires, bagels and coffee; offering our own poetry, art, dance and song to honor the dream.(www.symbolicstudies.org)

Stephen Larsen bestowed upon me verbal certification of Dream Group Facilitator in his office- a painting of Carl Jung above his head. I hold this lineage in high regard- from the man on the wall himself, to Edward C. Whitmont, Steve on down.

I must pay tribute to the other teachers I hold in high esteem from Jeremy Taylor whom I have the good fortune to do group dream work with seasonally at Miriam’s Well (www.miriamswell.org) and who has certified me in dream work from the Marin Institute of Projective Dream Work; Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, whom I have learned with about the Buddhist Bon tradition of dreaming, which has enhanced my dream practice considerably;

Reb Gershon Winkler- teacher of Jewish Shamanic practices and source for teachings on dream from the Biblical, Talmudic and mystical traditions; lastly, Robert Moss - a dream shaman in his own right, author and guide, teacher of the ancient history of dreaming, and founder of the Robert Moss School of Active Dreaming.      What I love most about the group work, is bridging the experiences of the generations. In our current Jansen Road Dream Circle, we have dreamers from their twenties through their seventies. Our journey together is both meaningful and enlightening. Dreaming serves as spiritual practice for each of us to greater or lesser degrees. The joy of that, one that I try to impress upon the youth I work with a well, is that we all have direct access to Jung's collective unconscious, or the spiritual worlds; to the workings of an intelligent universe, to self understanding and healing.
